The Walch family – Lech

By tradition – Juliana

Welcome to Haus Juliana in Lech – where history,
hospitality and nature come together.

Three generations welcome you

Our roots date back to 1386 – over 600 years of history, agriculture and connection to Lech. From simple mountain farming to today’s organic alpine farming, much has changed, but the close relationship with nature, animals and the valley has remained.

With our guest house Juliana and the Walch organic farm, we have created a special place to relax in nature, which we also protect. Family-run, certified organic and quietly located, we offer cosy rooms and apartments as well as a rich breakfast buffet with many products from our own farm.

We are proud to be the first and only certified organic hospitality business in the Arlberg region.

The history of the Walch family at Stubenbach 527
(Wendelin & Juliana House)

The house at Stubenbach 527 has stood in Lech for centuries and tells of eventful times. In the 18th century, it belonged to the Jochum and Wolf families.
Josef Wolf ran it with his wife Elisabeth Mathies, but their only son Felix Vitali had no children. So the home passed to the Elsensohn family.

In 1839, Johann Josef Elsensohn married Anna Maria Wolf, and a new chapter began with their twelve children. One daughter, Theresia Elsensohn, brought the house into the hands of the Walch family in 1872 through her marriage to Franziskus Walch.

Juliana Walch is the namesake of our guesthouse

Half a century later, Franz Anton Walch and his wife Juliana continued this tradition. They had three sons, and the eldest – Wendelin Walch (1923–2001) – eventually took over the farm.

Wendelin and his wife Maria Metzler ran the farm through the second half of the 20th century. Together, they upheld the old values: hard work, responsibility and a deep attachment to their homeland. Their four sons – Anton, Georg, August and Leo – three of them went their own ways: as a restaurateur, a businessman and a doctor.

Leo continued the tradition of Haus Wendelin (Haus Stubenbach) by building Haus Juliana as a new guesthouse together with Claudia, thus carrying on the family’s hospitality and farming traditions into the future.

Now the new generations are taking over. More to come soon 🙂
